The India–Afghanistan Joint Working Group (JWG) on Trade, Commerce and Investment held a virtual meeting on September 1, 2026, with officials from both countries participating. Representatives from commerce, industry, customs, regulatory authorities and diplomatic missions attended the meeting to review bilateral trade and economic cooperation.
The two sides discussed a range of measures aimed at facilitating trade and deepening commercial engagement. Key areas included trade facilitation and customs cooperation, visa facilitation for Afghan traders, banking and financial cooperation, pharmaceutical and agricultural trade, energy cooperation, investment promotion, tariff concessions, cargo connectivity and port-related issues.
The JWG agreed to strengthen institutional cooperation and undertake follow-up actions in the identified areas. These include enhanced customs and data-sharing mechanisms, greater regulatory cooperation in the pharmaceutical and agriculture sectors, improved trade connectivity, and initiatives to promote investment and business-to-business engagement between the two countries.
The meeting was held in a warm and constructive atmosphere, with both sides reaffirming their commitment to strengthening India–Afghanistan trade, commerce and investment ties. They also agreed to maintain continued engagement and follow up on the issues discussed to further expand bilateral commercial cooperation.
