New Delhi, Sep 25: Audi India has started local assembly of its new-generation Q3 compact luxury SUV in Maharashtra, strengthening the company’s focus on local manufacturing and India’s growing premium car market.
The new Q3 is being assembled at the Škoda Auto Volkswagen India facility in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. The model is scheduled to be launched in India on October 16.
The move comes as demand for SUVs continues to grow among Indian car buyers, including customers in the luxury segment. Compact luxury SUVs are gaining popularity for combining premium features, comfortable interiors and everyday practicality.
The new Q3 also brings several technology upgrades. The India-spec model will feature a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine, seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and quattro all-wheel drive. It will also offer a digital instrument display, large touchscreen infotainment system, connected features, wireless smartphone connectivity and a 360-degree camera.
Audi is also expanding its locally assembled portfolio in India. The company plans to introduce more models as it looks to respond to changing customer preferences and rising demand for premium vehicles.
The increasing use of local assembly by global luxury carmakers reflects the changing role of India in the automobile industry. Manufacturers are looking to combine global vehicle technology with greater production and value addition in the domestic market.
