New Delhi, Sep 05: Rail Vikas Nigam Limited a Navratna CPSE under the Ministry of Railways, has received a Letter of Award worth INR 903,00,68,492 including GST, from SJVN Thermal Private Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of SJVN Limited, for construction of a permanent railway siding along with Rail-over-Rail connectivity from the plant boundary of the 1,320 MW Buxar Thermal Power Project to Chausa and Pawani Kamarpur in Buxar district, Bihar.
The project, which is part of Phase-III of the railway infrastructure for the Buxar Thermal Power Project, will be executed by RVNL within 36 months. The scope includes construction of the permanent siding and associated railway infrastructure, including roadbed, minor bridges, Limited Height Subways, platforms, station buildings, Foot Over Bridge and other allied civil works.
Connecting the Power Plant to the Railway Network
The project will provide dedicated rail connectivity from the Buxar Thermal Power Project to the existing East Central Railway network through Chausa and Pawani Kamarpur. The railway route connects onward through Buxar and Pt. Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Junction with the wider national railway network.
The Rail-over-Rail component will facilitate connectivity with the existing railway infrastructure while enabling railway operations to continue safely and efficiently.
Strengthening Coal Logistics
The railway connectivity will facilitate efficient movement of coal and other bulk materials to the power plant.
The dedicated railway infrastructure will therefore strengthen the rail-based logistics chain between the coal-producing region and the power generation facility in Bihar.
Supporting Bihar’s Power Infrastructure
The Buxar Thermal Power Project, located at Chausa in Buxar district, has an installed capacity of 1,320 MW and is being implemented by SJVN Thermal Private Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of SJVN Limited.
SJVN states that the project will substantially enhance power availability in Bihar and the Eastern Region.
The first 660 MW unit of the project achieved commercial operation on November 14, 2025, while work on the second 660 MW unit is progressing.
A Significant Infrastructure Order for RVNL
The ₹903–crore order further strengthens RVNL’s role in developing integrated railway and allied infrastructure for major power and industrial projects.
Through this project, RVNL will contribute to strengthening rail connectivity, improving bulk-material logistics and supporting the efficient functioning of a major power-generation facility in Bihar.
